A Sisimiut hike back in time

A Sisimiut hike back in time

In spite of Greenland’s enormous size, human beings have chosen the very same spots for their settlements through the ages.

The Tele Island, Sallinnguit, is one of those sites where ancient and modern cultures meet. Inuit inhabitants have lived at the site intermittently for the past 4.000 years. Even today, you can find artifacts bearing witness to the ancient habitation side by side with the modern telecommunications installations that have given the island its modern Danish name.

Hear the story of the life of the Inuit before the advent of the Europeans, and of life in the early days of colonization. See the ruins from different periods and enjoy the beautiful views over the town and the ancient hunting grounds.
