It’s peak to beach, it’s steep and deep, it’s 2000 meters of vertical, and it’s all right here in Destination Arctic Circle’s alpine zones around Maniitsoq and Kangaamiut.
Whether you base yourself in a 4 star hotel or in a fully catered settlement home there really is no excuse to not have a great time out there.
That’s because up here heliskiing is as remote and exclusive as it comes, and with the fiords and the sea glittering below and the sun shining above, you’ll be hard pressed to find something closer to the spiritual home of the sport.
Heliskiing guide Arne shows snowboarding legend Stefan Gimpl how to make ‘Greenlandic coffee’ – a Greenlandic signature drink where each ingredient represents different elements of Greenland. And it tastes awfully good!

The word ”ultimate” was born on an adventure like this. This trip will give you more skiing and more breathtaking views than anything else in a countrywide radius.
Whether you make your base camp Sisimiut or Maniitsoq the goal of this trip is to pack as much epic heliskiing into two days as we can possible manage, and two days offer plenty of time to explore the backcountry.
From Sisimiut we do one day trips to the alpine mountains northeast of town where a small glacier and a number of steep slopes are available. Or we can step things up a notch and head down to the rugged Itilleq mountains.
Around Maniitsoq the land seems built for heliskiing. Wide open slopes down glaciated peaks shine in the Spring sun, and as you move further into the mountain range and reach the Eternity Fiord area you reach towering rocks and a heliskiing paradise. Sizewise this area extends well beyond anything available in Europe, and it rivals whatever you may have seen in North America in terms of beauty and challenges. Out West, right on the coast, Kangaamiut is a prime destination for both skitouring, randonnée, and hardcore heliskiing, and with the minicruise ship Kisaq at your disposal the whole fiord system turns into one big destination. Further north the village Itilleq can be used as basecamp when you fly out from Sisimiut in search of powder runs on the Northern slopes of the Itilleq mountains, and around Sisimiut the Aqqutikitsoq glacier is just a quick flight away before you reach great coastal skiing areas. So call that helicopter. Now!
